Restorative Justice as a Human Right: Celebrating Human Rights Day

On December 10, recognized globally as Human Rights Day, we are pleased to share the Manifesto for Restorative Justice and Human Rights, recently released by the European Forum for Restorative Justice. NACRJ contributed to the discussions that informed this document and is a proud signer. The manifesto highlights the deep alignment between restorative justice principles and universal human rights, and calls for greater access to restorative approaches across all communities.

This international effort reflects a shared commitment to using restorative justice as an instrument to uphold human rights and to recognize access to restorative justice as an inherent component of existing justice and human rights protections. We hope this document will contribute to ongoing global work to establish restorative justice within the human rights framework and to ensure that restorative options are available to all who seek them.
