Welcome to NACRJ

The National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) employs principles of social and restorative justice seeking transformation in the ways justice questions related to injustice, incivility, conflict, crime and harm are addressed. It promotes effective forms of justice that are safe, just, equitable, sustainable, reparative and socially constructive.  NACRJ serves as the parent organization for the biannual National Conference on Community and Restorative Justice.  It provides supports for members as well as the field by making information, resources and networking opportunities readily available.

"Shaping Justice for the 21st Century"

Vision

We envision a safe and equitable world where restorative interactions transform individuals, relationships, communities and systems through the prevention, repair and deep healing of harm.

Mission

We advance community and restorative justice as a social movement by serving people and organizations committed to building community and addressing harm.  NACRJ provides guidance and support to establish high quality practices with fidelity to restorative principles.

The state summaries are drawn from the US Restorative Justice Legislation Database, compiled by the Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, College of Law, Georgia State University.

The full database includes references to statutes, regulations, and administrative code from throughout the United States.  The summary only covers statutes.

Statutes are gathered from the Westlaw legal database using search terms including:

* Community Conferencing
* Family Circles
* Family Conferencing
* Family Group Decision Making
* Reconciliation
* Restoration
* Restorative Discipline
* Restorative Justice
* Victim/Offender
* Victim Impact

Results are updated monthly and are current through 8/22/2016.

This summary list was prepared at the request of NACRJ and some legislation may have been missed.  If you are aware of any legislation that we have missed, please contact the authors, Carolyn Lambert (This email address is being protected from spambots. Important Restorative Justice Legal Reseach Tools

Over the last few years Professor Carolyn Lambert (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), NACRJ Member and Director of the Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (CNCR) of Georgia State University has worked to develope an important data base documenting the laws and policies relevant to restorative justice practices - state by state.

The first version is posted below for anyone who visits our website.  Click on the the link below to download the Excel spreadsheet.

Restorative Justice Policy and Legislation Resource, Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, College of Law, Georgia State University, December 2014.

An updated second version of this database is now available to NACRJ Members after logging into the website.  The new version is located under the "Resources" category under "Other Related Topics" ---> "Legislation-Laws".
